Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Pettel platform, including the mobile application and website at pettel.ie, operated by Pettel ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using Pettel, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Platform

Pettel is a marketplace that connects dog owners ("Owners") with home dog boarders ("Boarders"). We facilitate the connection and payment between parties but are not a party to the boarding arrangement itself. Pettel does not employ boarders or own any boarding facilities.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Pettel. By registering, you confirm you are legally able to enter into a binding contract.

3. Accounts

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must provide accurate and complete information when registering.
• You may not create multiple accounts or impersonate another person.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Boarders

• Boarders must complete Stripe identity verification before listing their services.
• Boarders are responsible for providing accurate descriptions of their services, home, and capabilities.
• Boarders must hold any licences or registrations required by Irish law for home boarding (e.g. a Dog Breeding Establishment licence where applicable).
• Boarders agree to provide the agreed care to dogs in their custody and to promptly notify owners of any issues.
• A platform service fee of 18% of the booking subtotal (minimum €6 per booking) is retained by Pettel to cover payment processing and platform costs. The remaining amount is paid to the boarder's connected Stripe account.

5. Owners

• Owners must provide accurate information about their dogs, including vaccination status, medical conditions, and behavioural history.
• Owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs are vaccinated and fit for boarding.
• Owners must disclose any known aggression or behavioural issues that could affect the boarder or other animals.

6. Bookings and Payments

• Bookings are confirmed once a boarder accepts a request (or instantly for Instant Book listings).
• Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Pettel does not store card details.
• Payment is held and released to the boarder on completion of the stay.
• Refunds on cancellation are governed by the boarder's cancellation policy (flexible, moderate, or strict) as displayed on their profile. Pettel will automatically process eligible refunds via Stripe.

7. Cancellations

Cancellation refund amounts depend on the boarder's published policy and the timing of the cancellation:

• Flexible: full refund if cancelled more than 24 hours before the start date.
• Moderate: full refund if cancelled more than 5 days before; 50% refund if 1–5 days before; no refund within 24 hours.
• Strict: full refund if cancelled more than 7 days before; no refund otherwise.

8. Prohibited Conduct

• Circumventing the platform to pay or receive payment outside Pettel.
• Posting false or misleading reviews.
• Misrepresenting your identity, credentials, or your dog's characteristics.
• Using Pettel for any unlawful purpose.
• Harassing, threatening, or abusing other users.

9. Liability

Pettel is a marketplace platform and is not liable for the conduct of boarders or owners, injury or damage to dogs in the care of boarders, or disputes between users. Boarders assume responsibility for dogs in their care during a booking. We strongly encourage boarders to hold appropriate pet care insurance.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pettel's liability is limited to the amount of platform fees collected in connection with the specific booking giving rise to a claim.

10. Intellectual Property

The Pettel name, logo, and platform are owned by Pettel. Users retain ownership of content they upload (photos, reviews) but grant Pettel a licence to display that content on the platform.

11. Termination

You may delete your account at any time via Account Settings in the app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. We will notify users of material changes via email or in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
